Behind The Success (BTS)

Joseph Tobi Olorunmeyan

At Gooro Consulting, Behind the Success is dedicated to spotlighting the people whose work rarely makes headlines, yet quietly powers some of the most impactful companies and products we use today. These are the builders, problem-solvers, and innovators whose consistency and commitment often go unseen, but without whom growth would be impossible.

In this edition, we spotlight Joseph Tobi Olorunmeyan, a Software Engineer at NativeTalk, a subsidiary of Tech4mation Limited. Joseph’s story is one of discipline, early responsibility, and the long-term rewards of choosing growth over comfort.

From Early Responsibility to Real-World Skill

Joseph’s journey did not follow a conventional path. Recognising his potential early, his parents encouraged him to start university ahead of schedule. That decision came with weighty responsibility. Leaving home earlier than most, Joseph moved in with his sister and quickly realised that succeeding would require more than academic excellence alone.

While studying at the University of Lagos, Joseph immersed himself in software engineering courses, online learning, and practical experimentation. He wasn’t just preparing for exams, he was preparing for real work. That mindset led him to his first paid internship at Tech4mation, an opportunity that would define the next phase of his growth.

Balancing school and work was far from easy. There were days when university presentations and production-level tasks collided, forcing difficult choices and personal sacrifices. But instead of pulling back, Joseph leaned in. Even during the uncertainty of the COVID period, when external concerns could have slowed his progress, he remained focused on skill-building, consistency, and showing up fully wherever he was needed.

This quiet persistence paid off. Just months ago, Joseph graduated from the University of Lagos with a First Class degree, emerging as the best graduating student in his department, a reflection not only of academic excellence, but of years of discipline built alongside real-world experience.

Driving Innovation at NativeTalk

At Tech4mation, and particularly within NativeTalk, Joseph transitioned from learner to core contributor. Over time, he became one of the engineers behind the company’s most critical systems, contributing across NativeTalk’s CRM platform, mobile applications, hardware-integrated solutions, and overall product ecosystem.

One of Joseph’s most significant contributions sits deep within infrastructure, the kind of work users never see, but always feel. As NativeTalk grew, its voice infrastructure faced mounting pressure. What began as a small setup supporting roughly 26 agents quickly needed to scale to hundreds, and eventually thousands.

Today, that system is designed to support 5,000+ agent extensions and counting, forming the backbone of NativeTalk’s rapidly expanding operations. It is a clear example of the kind of engineering that is almost invisible when done well, yet catastrophic when absent.

Beyond voice infrastructure, Joseph’s role expanded into server management, system reliability, and platform scalability, effectively positioning him as an infrastructure and systems manager alongside his software engineering responsibilities. He also played a role in integrating AI capabilities into NativeTalk’s Omnichannel CRM, helping the platform evolve with modern automation and intelligence demands.

His strength lies not just in writing code, but in understanding how systems interact, how businesses scale, and how technical decisions impact users, agents, and operations at scale.

Learning Early, Growing Faster

Joseph’s journey offers an important lesson for students and young professionals, especially those currently in school or serving during NYSC. Starting work early does not distract from growth; when done intentionally, it accelerates it.

By gaining hands-on experience alongside his education, Joseph entered the workforce with context many graduates only begin to develop years later. Today, he operates at a mid-level, near-managerial capacity, not because of shortcuts, but because years of real responsibility have shaped his decision-making, leadership instincts, and technical judgment.

Early exposure teaches lessons classrooms cannot: how systems break, how teams collaborate under pressure, how trade-offs are made, and how accountability changes the way you think. These lessons compound quietly, and over time, they create professionals who are not just qualified, but ready.

For young people deliberating whether working during school or NYSC is “worth it,” Joseph’s story stands as proof that flexibility, discipline, and curiosity can dramatically change your career trajectory. The experience you build early often determines the speed, confidence, and clarity of your growth later.

Vision Beyond the Present

Looking ahead, Joseph is intentional about the future he is building. Over the next five to six years, he envisions himself in senior technical leadership and ownership roles, holding equity in startups, shaping scalable systems, and collaborating with global technology players.

He continues to invest in learning, not just technically, but on the business side of technology, preparing himself to lead teams, scale platforms, and build systems that grow without breaking. Alongside this, he mentors peers and friends, guiding them toward opportunities and helping others navigate the same path he once walked.

Recognition and Congratulations

Being recognised as part of Behind the Success is both a milestone and a reminder of the impact of quiet, consistent excellence. Joseph’s journey reflects what happens when preparation meets opportunity, and when talent is matched with discipline and humility.
